00:00:11.990 --> 00:00:17.120
Good morning everyone Kīlauea is still erupting
at two locations today at the summit and in

00:00:17.120 --> 00:00:19.080
the lower east rift zone.

00:00:19.080 --> 00:00:25.509
The summit has been pretty active there’s
been over 300 earthquakes in the past 48 hours

00:00:25.509 --> 00:00:30.220
and at least a dozen earthquakes that have
been between magnitudes three and four yesterday

00:00:30.220 --> 00:00:32.480
the largest was a magnitude four.

00:00:32.480 --> 00:00:37.460
The earthquakes are occurring as a result
of continued subsidence at the summit and

00:00:37.460 --> 00:00:45.160
we have seen five feet of down dropping at
the summit just around the Halemaʻumaʻu

00:00:45.160 --> 00:00:47.449
crater area.

00:00:47.449 --> 00:00:52.310
The deflation is also causing rock falls,
there’s more ash plumes that are going up

00:00:52.310 --> 00:00:56.440
into, up above sea level to like above 10,000
feet.

00:00:56.440 --> 00:01:02.479
So, three of those occurred yesterday and
we are keeping an eye on that, there have

00:01:02.479 --> 00:01:05.659
been lots of smaller explosions from the summit
as well.

00:01:05.659 --> 00:01:11.030
Moving down to the lower east rift zone lava
flows continue to erupt from the central fissure

00:01:11.030 --> 00:01:15.659
complex right around the eastern edge of the
Leilani Estates neighborhood.

00:01:15.659 --> 00:01:19.520
Fissure eight became reactivated overnight,
but the primary activity has been around the

00:01:19.520 --> 00:01:25.670
fissure seven and twenty-one area and there’s
also two channels of lava that are still issuing

00:01:25.670 --> 00:01:29.510
down to the coast and there are two ocean
entries.

00:01:29.510 --> 00:01:35.050
The ocean entry that is furthest to the west
looks like it might be starting to form a

00:01:35.050 --> 00:01:38.609
lava tube system and we’re going to keep
a close eye on that.

00:01:38.609 --> 00:01:39.609
That’s the update of today.
